Welcome to the Top End of Australia, where people drink beer like water and crocodiles are the size of a motorhome. Come July, Darwin is the place to be for most tourists visiting Australia. The dry season has commenced and 4WD tracks open up as swollen rivers retreat and the skies shine a glorious blue.
While you can see a lot of the Northern Territory & Darwin in a normal 2WD Campervan or Motorhome, ol’ Bob recommends hiring a 4WD Camper. With a 4WD Camper, the Northern Territory is your bitch – you can see all the best bits including Jim Jim Falls and the Lost City of Litchfield National Park. It means you can explore more of Kakadu and venture westward along the iconic Gibb River Road towards Broome.
There are a number of 4WD Rental companies based in Darwin, including Britz & Wicked Campers. Be sure to book your 4WD well-ahead of time however, as peak season July-August is incredibly busy and rental rates tend to skyrocket.
